How to Properly Pack and Protect Fragile Items During a Move?

If you are planning to move to a new place soon then you might have a lot of things to do. One important thing to manage on your own is packing. There are innumerable items present in your home that you have to pack. And, every item requires special type of packing, specially the fragile ones. You cannot even trust on the movers and packers Pune for the same. So, it is better that you should conduct the packing of the delicate items on your own. This is because you cannot trust someone else to handle your precious crockeries and glassware or any other item of sentimental value. So, keep on reading to know the details of how to properly pack and protect your delicate items during a move. 


1. Correct packing materials for fragile items 

To pack the fragile items, you need to get the right packing materials like packing paper, bubble wraps, plastic wraps, and more. Apart from these, you can invest in packing peanuts, furniture pads or padded inserts, and paper to ensure safe and packing of the delicate items. You need to carefully wrap all these items in paper or wraps so that they can stay intact. After putting them inside the box, you have to check for any empty space. If there will be any empty space left then fill it with crumpled paper. 

2. Keep glass and ceramics in small boxes 

Glasses, vases, ceramics, glassware, and similar other items should be packed safely and nicely inside the small boxes. They are much safer inside a small box in comparison to medium-sized or large-sized boxes. Wrap each item in a packing paper or bubble wrap before putting them inside a small box. Ensure that your box is tightly packed so that there will be no colliding inside the box during the move. Fill all the empty spaces with crumpled paper or peanuts. 

3. Label the fragile boxes

Labeling the boxes properly with “fragile” is highly essential because it will be easy for the movers to handle these boxes with extra cushion. Mention “fragile” not just on top but on the all the sides so that it can be visible from anywhere. These boxes will be handled carefully by the movers without instructing them. 

4. Keep the heavy item at the bottom of the box

This is a rule of thumb that you should keep the heavy items at the bottom of the box so that it will not crush anything and forms a sturdy base for other light-weight fragile items. On top of these items, keep the lighter ones safely. 

5. Wrap the items and add protection 

You should ensure that the items that you are putting inside the box are carefully packed using quality materials like bubble wraps, packing paper, tissue paper, or similar other things. Also, you can make use of old towels and blankets for protecting the fragile items from damage during the transit. To be extra safe, make sure to use tape or bungee cords for securing the blankets in place so that they will not fall off during transportation. 

6. Stack the items 

If it is possible then it would be better if you stack the like fragile items together and pack them using plastic wrap. It helps in reducing the risk of damage to a minimal amount. Fragile items like bowls, plates, etc., can be stacked, wrapped, and placed inside the box together. Place a solid cardboard at the bottom of the box and then keep a good amount of packing paper or bubble wrap on it and then keep the items on it. 

7. Pack Television and monitors in their original boxes 

If you have the original boxes of your television, monitors, or other electronic items then it is always better to pack them inside those original boxes. But, if you don’t have them then there are special boxes available for the packing of these items, which are known as telescope boxes. You can get them to store your fragile items inside for transit purpose. They will keep your delicate items completely safe during the travel. Also, if you do not want to invest in such boxes the you can properly wrap your item in a moving blanket and secure the same with the help of a moving tape, rope, or cord. This will keep the item secured throughout the move. Your screen should be carefully packed with the help of a plastic wrap so that it remains protected from any sort of direct impact.
