Before jumping on what to do for safe relocation of the shoes, you must know what things you must not do during the moving of your footwear.

What Not to Do?

Don’t simply throw your footwear directly into the boxes on top of each other. This is a horrendous mistake that will definitely harm your shoes. This will lead to different types of damage like scuffing, misshaping, and more.

Pack them separately from your clothes. DO NOT pack them along with your clothes as this can damage your precious garments.

Don’t pack dirty shoes. Make sure to clean all your footwear before packing them for the move.

Prepare the Shoes Before the Move

Before simply starting the packing task of the footwear, you must prepare them for the move. There are 5 steps of packing your footwear that are essential to follow so that they will not get damaged in any case.

1. Sort out your shoes: Sorting and purging shoes is a necessary step to get rid of the ones that you don’t wish to use in the future. Make sure everyone who is moving along with you will do this step.

2. Keep aside the worn-out shoes: If you have any pair of shoes that are worn or torn out, then you must give them to the recycling center.

3. Keep aside the not-so-likable shoes: You might have a pair of shoes that you don’t wear because you don’t like them but they are in good condition. You can either sell or donate them.

4. Sort as per the season: You will be left with only the ones that you are taking along. Now, sort them as per the season like if there is summer, then pack the winter shoes first.

5. Keep a pair of shoes separate: Make sure to separate a pair of shoes for your moving day. Don’t pack everything that you have otherwise, you have to remain barefoot on the big day.

Tips for Packing Your Footwear Safely

Tip 1: Clean and dry out your shoes

Make sure to completely clean and dry the shoes that you have decided to take along. Dirty shoes will get more damaged during the relocation process and cleaning them prior implies that you don’t have to deal with them after the move. Carefully remove the dirt and dust using a soft damp cloth and be extra careful while cleaning the expensive and delicate ones. It is extremely important to dry out your shoes completely before packing them otherwise, there are higher chances of getting mold growth on them. Leather, sports, and work shoes are at most risky if packed wet. So, make sure to air dry them for hours before packing.

Tip 2: Stuff your shoes with crumpled paper

When you pack your shoes directly, then there are high chances of getting your shoes damaged as they get crushed under the weight of other things. This will result in the disfiguring of the shoes. If you want to keep your shoes as it is, you must put some crumpled paper inside them. This will help you protect your shoes from getting misshaped. Just take a piece of paper, crumpled in an oval shape, and stuff it inside the shoes. You can also roll your fresh pair of socks and put them inside the shoes as an alternative. Avoid newspaper for stuffing as they may transfer ink to the shoes.

Tip 3: Gather shoe packing material

Now, you must gather the most durable shoe-packing materials to ensure the safety of your footwear during the move. You must gather materials like small or medium-sized boxes, shoe bags, packing paper, bubble wrap, permanent markers, and if in case you still have the original box of the shoes. You must invest in shoe bags or repurpose cloth bags to keep your shoes inside them. This will help your footwear from getting scuffs and scratches. Also, it helps in keeping all the things clean. DO NOT pack your shoes in plastic bags as they trap moisture and lead to mold growth.

Tip 4: Packing the shoes in shoe boxes

The best way to pack the shoes is considered to be in the shoe boxes, especially the original ones. But, there are some steps to follow for packing your shoes carefully.

Place a large paper sheet at the bottom of the box.

Take a sheet of clean packing paper, place your shoe on it, and start wrapping by rolling it down in the diagonal length of the paper sheet.

Tuck the overlapping edges of the paper from both sides until a neat bundle is created.

Make use of a piece of tape to fix the bundle in place and then, transfer it into the shoe box.

Pack all the shoes in the same manner. And make sure to keep the shoes in opposite directions inside the box.

Cover the shoes at the top using the bottom layer of the paper for added protection. Then, close the box and pack it using a tape.

Label the boxes using a permanent marker at the end.

Conclusion

Packing your shoes properly is extremely important to ensure safety during the move. These tips will help save your footwear from damage even if they are transferred by movers and packers in Pune
